It definitely happened!
I bought a cute maxi dress and when I went to wear it to work a few days later I had a security tag dangling by my ankle.
Due to my busy schedule I decided to see if there was an easy way to remove it at home to avoid going back across town to the store.
I’m happy to say that I figured it out!!
Turn the tag over and with a lighter melt the tip of the pointed hump. Make sure you are not melting the actual pin. You only want to melt it enough to expose the spring that is underneath the plastic. You can use a knife or screw driver to pull out the spring. I would do this over the sink in case you need to run it under water in a hurry.
Pop out the spring.
Underneath the spring is the tip of the pin. Simply push it out with the tip of your knife or screw driver.
Voila! Security tag removed!!
If by chance you have a security tag that does not have a spring:
- Place a piece of duct tape over the hole on the under side of the tag. The tape is just in case dye leaks.
- You will need 2 pairs of pliers. Clamp on pair on one end of the long piece, and the other pair on the other end.
- Carefully bend down towards the pin side.
- The pin should slide right out.
